Let’s watch – series I have never finished

Hello, sunshine!

Do you know those series you start because someone recommended it or the preview looked good or you just have a boring day and don’t know anything else to do? I do!

Every weekend I have one day where I try to relax as much as I can which means I stay on the couch watchin netflix or amazon prime video. (Btw: this is no advertisment, I just tell you my story!)

Today I want to talk about series I started watching but never finished.

It’s about those where I just watched a few episodes or one season but not the whole series.
This post is made in collaboration with Lisa from fowers and crowns who asked me to share my series I never finished. If you are interested in more serial-related content or her series she never finished, check out her blog > click here <

What’s the story?

It is a Spanish television series about the long-prepared, multi-day assault on the „Royal Mint of Spain in Madrid, in which a group of robbers take hostages as part of their plan to print and escape with €2.4 billion.“ They show the preparation of this giant armed raid and the raid itself at the same time, which is great to understand the story. You can feel how detailed and well-conceived the professor planned every single step and every potential reaction.

Why did I stop watching?

I love the cast, especially Rio. But the main story is about Tokio, one of the girls of the raiders, and the professor, who is the „head“ of the whole plan. And I cannot really understand their behavior. Originally, I stopped watching because of the break between the seasons. Since then, I found no time to restart it.

Will I ever finish?

I’m not sure yet but I think it is a great serial. I will probably start watching whenever I have one of those days again where I have nothing else to do than staying on the couch.

No. 2: 13 reasons why

I know that a lot of people love this series, but I don’t. I have read the book when I was 14 or 15 years old. At this time no one knew it. But since it became a Netflix original serial everyone talks about it.

What’s the story?

Hanna Baker died – committed suicide. Clay, the main character, mourn for her because he always thought that they were close friends. What he doesn’t know is, that she recorded 13 cassettes for 13 people. Those 13 people are her reasons why she killed herself.

As a TV viewer, you see Clay listening to every single cassette. As you go along, you kind of understand why Hannas live was so bad. He understands what has been wrong but he struggles to find his part in this puzzle. How can he be a reason for her suicide when they have been friends all the time?

Why did I stop watching?

I have seen the whole first season. I tried to start with the second one but a part of me refuses to continue. The book has been great… can they take this quality up? Hanna is dead and no one will ever change. Why extending such a horrible topic?

Will I ever finish?

I don’t think so. I did not like it that much and I don’t see one reason to keep watching. But if you think that it would be worth it, feel free to tell me your thoughts in the comment section below!

No. 3: You

I’m at episode 8 season 1. Originally, I started watching this series because of Dan Humphrey… I mean Penn Badgley, the actor of the main character. He has been great as Dan in Gossip Girl.

What’s the story?

Wikipedia says it is an „American psychological thriller television series“ about Joe Goldberg. He is a bookstore manager in New York with one secret: he is a serial killer…Ups.

When he first saw Guinevere Beck he fell in love with her. She was just a customer in his bookstore talking to him about all the books because she is an aspiring writer. Joe quickly became obsessed with her. In times of social media, it was easy for him to follow her activities everywhere, track her phone and remove obstacles to their romance.

Why did I stop watching?

Actually, I stopped because I found something better. The behavior of Joe is very strange and I can’t follow his thoughts. It is just a weird mess of bad decisions and awkward obsessions. And I can’t believe that no one noticed what he was doing.

Will I ever finish?

Probably not. As I said, it is just way too strange and I’m sure I can find something better. Nevertheless, in my opinion, Penn Badgley, the actor of Joe, is very good looking. So if you don’t care about the story, it is nice watching him.

No. 4: Cable Girls

I’m at episode 5 season 2. I started watching these series because of the huge promotions on Netflix and a friend recommended it.

What’s the story?

Honestly, I need the help of Wikipedia because I don’t remember everything: It is a Spanish drama in 1928 about four girls working in a modern telecommunications company. The main characters Lidia, Marga, Carlota und Ángeles don’t want to be patronized by men anymore and start fighting for their voice.

Why did I stop watching?

Ok, let’s start with the good things: I love the scene of 1928 when the series starts and the actors look impressive. I couldn’t imagine life during this time in any country in the world. What I did not like was that it did not catch me at all. Although I like the story, it was not exciting or gripping.

Will I ever finish?

I don’t think I will continue with Cable Girls soon. It is nice to watch but there are better ones. Maybe one day I feel in the mood for easy and girly content but currently, I’m more up for mystery and supernatural.

No. 5: Jane the Virgin

I’m at season 2 episode 13, which ist quite a lot because each season has more than 20 episodes each 40 min. When I first saw some bits and pieces about Jane the virgin it was on TV a few years ago. I think I started watching it during one of my exam-periods last year but didn’t continue since then.

What’s the story?

Surprise, surprise: the story is about Jane ( a virgin). Jane is a hard-working, religious, young, Venezuelan-American woman. She swore to herself to keep her virginity until marriage, but unfortunately a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a checkup. And the story begins…

Why did I stop watching?

I think I stopped because I found something better, like always. It is not the most gripping or shocking series, but sometimes a little too much foreseeable and at the same time unrealistic.

Will I ever finish?

Well, it is very easy content and whenever you’re bored and have nothing else left, why not? I like Jane and her pursuit to be the best mom and great at her job.

No. 6: Once upon a time

I’m at episode 2 season 5, which means that I have seen a lot! I think I have two seasons left but since the last time I have seen anything about this series was in December 2018.

What’s the story?

The story is about Emma Swan who accidentally found the fictional seaside town of Storybrooke. What she doesn’t know is that no one else than Emma has ever seen this town before and no one ever left it. The inhabitants are actually characters from various fairy tales and other stories that were transported to the real world town and robbed of their original memories by the Evil Queen Regina.

Why did I stop watching?

I have seen the first four seasons when I was in Scotland. Unfortunately, when I had to stop because the fifth season was just available in English, which usually is no problem because most of the series I have seen in English. But I had seen all seasons in German and it was so strange to see Captain Hook (my favorite character) with such a different voice.

Will I ever finish?

I hope so! I know that amazon finally has the fifth season in German and I think I will start watching it again. Although I did not like the end of the fourth season, I’m sure that pretty Captain Hook will make it worth to watch. And I want to see season six because I have heard great things about Hook and…

No. 7: UnReal

Currently, I’m in episode 5 of season 4, but I think it took me more than 6 months for the last 5 episodes.

What’s the story?

The main character and producer Rachel Goldberg returns to Everlasting, a popular dating show, after a breakdown. It is about manipulation and trying to make a great show without taking care of someone’s feelings.

Why did I stop watching?

If this is the truth about how shows like The Bachelor are made, I don’t know why there are still women left who want to be part of this show. It has been too much manipulation and recklessness. Sometimes it’s funny to watch but currently, I’m not in the mood for this kind of series.

Will I ever finish?

Maybe. Basically, I have already seen four seasons which is a lot. So I might feel in the mood to watch a show like this again but I’m not sure. I would recommend it for days when you don’t give a f*** on other people and you just don’t want to be friendly, nice and kind anymore.

No. 8: Supernatural

I’m in episode 15 episode1, but I haven’t seen enough to get a profound opinion about this.

What’s the story?

The series originally focuses primarily on the brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, as they travel throughout the country hunting down evil supernatural creatures.

Why did I stop watching?

The first season was made in 2005 and although the story is not as bad, the quality is worse than I expected. I know I’m spoilt by all these new Netflix/ Amazon/ whatever productions with special effects and HD quality. But I cannot take them seriously when the monsters don’t look realistic at all.

Will I ever finish?

Well, these series have 13 seasons… I have to much left to know whether I will ever finish, but I probably will continue. I like the topic and the boys are quite cute.

Ladies and Gentlemen – this is it!

Those are eight series I started watching but never finished for various reasons. If you had the same struggles with one of those series or one of those Lisa mentioned in her post, please tell me your thoughts in the comments below! I would be happy to share some other series!

See you next time! ❤
